Along Came A Spider
I finally freed that spider that had somehow ended up trapped in a measuring cup. I would have let it go earlier but I am afraid of spiders (I had this image of it somehow getting on me in the process so I waited until I had help). Despite my fear, I won’t kill a spider unless it invades my personal space. Spiders provide an important role in eating insects that might otherwise be in your home.
I felt really guilty that I went out of town for three days while this spider sat in this cup. He looked pretty bad by the time we set him free. Hopefully he was able to regroup and find some bugs to eat. Here are some useful links about spiders:

Sofa Cushion vs. Car
Yesterday I had to go to traffic court in Prince William County. I had never been to Manassas, where the court is located, and thought it was a quaint little town. I had planned to post something on my court experience or on how cheap gas was in Manassas in comparison to where I live, but something superseded that. On the way back, I literally ran into some difficulties as you will see in this short video.
This whole ordeal occurred in more than an hour’s time. Obviously, I was too involved in the situation to capture the entire event. Crazy.
Kiddie Karaoke
These little divas insisted that they be allowed to participate in the karaoke fun too. I love their energy. Kids are fun. I have more karaoke videos that I’ll get up soon.
Fireworks
I can’t remember the last time, I saw the fireworks on the National Mall. As a matter of fact, I can’t remember the last Independence Day when I wasn’t out of town or out of the country. At any rate, I went downtown to see the fireworks from the comfort of the roof at work. This is what I saw. There were stars, hearts, and rings among the various shapes the fireworks created.
Ballooning in the Shenandoah Valley
If you have read an earlier blog post, you know that this was originally planned for my birthday but was canceled due to wind. I started to get scared when I saw the wicker basket that we would be riding in. Actually I started to get scared when we had to sign the waiver releasing them from responsibility for all harm and death that could potentially occur but the basket made me more nervous. I was amazed at the process of inflating the balloon with two giant fans. When Donny, the pilot, fired up the gas burner the first time I was really scared. The flames were like six feet tall. At any rate, taking off was easy; I didn’t even really feel that we were lifting up. The flight was great we just followed the wind. Donny would adjust the altitude to get the winds blowing in the direction he wanted. We were really high for a while, then came down to touch some tree tops. All the animals (cows, dogs, turkeys, goats, rabbits) hated the balloon and we sent them scattering or caused them to make a lot of noise. We could hear them all really clearly in the air. For the landing we came in over a pond. I have photos of the reflection. We had to climb out of the basket but continue to hold on to it so it wouldn’t float away. Then we tipped the basket over with Donny still in it and helped with the deflation process. Awesome experience.
